Chris Bouwmeester | BSc (Calgary), PhD (Calgary), PEng Associate Professor, Teaching Stream
Institute of Biomedical Engineering (BME) | Institute for Studies in Transdisciplinary Engineering Education & Practice (ISTEP) Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering
Dr. Bouwmeester focuses his teaching efforts on biomedical engineering capstone design, the application of human factors to improve the design of medical devices, preparing graduate students to be productive researchers, and letting engineering students feel their physiology. His pedagogical research interests revolve around active learning by measuring the psychophysiological response of people in active learning environments and meshing inverted classroom structures with hands-on activities at small and large scales. He uses his background in mechanical and biomedical engineering and cardiovascular physiology, where he studied the effects of waves created by the heart and mechanical assist devices, to inform his teaching and pedagogical research.
Facilities: Design studios and maker space facilities
